Moving abroad for school at 17 is a bold move. For Reashwarr Morali, it was supposed to be the next big step β A Levels at Sunway College in Malaysia, independence, a new chapter. But being away from home for the first time proved harder than anyone anticipated. Academically and personally, the environment wasn’t the right fit. His parents made the call to bring him back to Abu Dhabi.
What followed was a different kind of challenge. Back in the UAE mid-academic year, the family found that most schools had already started their second term. Subject combinations were restricted, timetables clashed, and exam schedules were locked to each institution’s calendar. A smooth re-entry into traditional schooling wasn’t just inconvenient β it was looking impossible.
That’s when they discovered U Global Academy.
Finding Flexibility in an Inflexible System
Reashwarr’s mother, who connected with UGA during this difficult period, recalls what made the decision feel right. “UGA offered a more flexible and personalised approach,” she says. “Their tailored classes and the ability to spread out exam preparation and scheduling made it a more suitable option for my son’s needs during this transition.”
Of course, the family had doubts β every parent would. Would an alternative programme compromise academic quality? Would it limit university options? Would her son stay disciplined without the structure of a traditional school day? “We were unsure about moving away from the traditional school system,” she admits. “But seeing the flexibility and support, our concerns gradually reduced.”
A Different Kind of Learning
Reashwarr now studies three subjects across ten live classes per week. But the numbers only tell part of the story. What stands out most to his mother is the shift in how he learns.
“Unlike his previous experience, he received more individual attention, which helped him better understand concepts and stay engaged. The teachers were able to adapt to his pace and learning style, which improved his confidence and overall performance.”
The personalisation extends beyond subject content. UGA is also supporting Reashwarr with SAT preparation, and the family has been informed about online experiential programmes available over the summer β opportunities designed to build real-world readiness alongside academic results.
As a parent, staying informed was never a struggle. “UGA created a WhatsApp group with the entire academic team, which gave me peace of mind knowing I could get updates and support whenever needed.”
Results That Surprised Even the Sceptics
Perhaps the most telling moment came when Reashwarr’s recent test results came in.
“I was pleasantly surprised β they were better than I expected,” his mother shares. “This progress has eased much of my initial scepticism. I really hope it will carry over to his actual exams, where he will need to physically write the papers.”
She’s also noticed something less easy to measure, but just as meaningful: her son is becoming more self-sufficient. “Even though he attends classes online, he has to be punctual and manage his own schedule. While discipline can be challenging, I’ve seen it gradually developing over time β something that I have not seen in a traditional school setting.”
What U Global Academy Gave That a School Could Not
For families in the GCC weighing up a similar decision, Reashwarr’s mother offers a clear-eyed perspective: “Every child is different, and sometimes a traditional school may not suit their learning style or personal needs. An alternative path like UGA offers flexibility, personalised attention, and real-world preparation that can really help a child thrive.”
She also wants to put a common fear to rest. “Many parents worry that non-traditional schooling may lack structure or academic rigour. From my experience, this isn’t the case. UGA offers a well-structured, personalised approach that keeps students disciplined, engaged, and fully prepared for exams and future opportunities.”
If she had to sum up what made U Global Academy different, the answer is simple: “U Global Academy gave my child personalised attention, flexibility, and the ability to choose the subjects and exam papers that suit him β support a traditional school could not provide.”
For Reashwarr, the path forward looks clearer than it did when he stepped off that flight from Malaysia. And for his family, the leap of faith is already paying off.
